Munch on Italian Pizza Recipe at Home

how to season pizza homestyle recipe

A precursor of pizza was probably the focaccia, a flat bread known to the Romans, to which toppings were then added. Modern pizza evolved from similar flatbread dishes in Naples, Italy, in the 18th or early 19th century. In Sardinia, French and Italian archaeologists have found bread baked over 7,000 years ago. The innovation that led to flat bread pizza was the use of tomato as a topping.

Pizza is a savory dish of Italian origin, consisting of a usually round, flattened base of leavened wheat-based dough topped with tomatoes, cheese, and often various other ingredients (anchovies, olives, meat, etc.) baked at a high temperature, traditionally in a wood-fired oven. A small pizza is sometimes called a pizzetta.
